Before any writing begins, writers need a creative concept. After identifying their audience and purpose, writers need to think. A good writer can think alone or with others. Either way, I like to refer to the pre-writing process as herding cats.

The Allusions
A good writer considers disparate ideas, facts, allusions, art styles, literary genres, memes, jokes, TV shows and elements of popular culture (or interesting subcultures).

The Writers
Then the writers (henceforth known as cats) combine their allusions (also henceforth known as cats) to create something new (henceforth, new concepts shall also be known as cats)

The Sum
—something new that supersedes the strength of all its parts.

Unruly
Some of the writer cats are unruly.

Unruly
Some of the allusion cats are unruly.

Unruly
And some of the new idea cats are unruly.
The Most Beautiful Cat in the World
The writer or writing team works well when they collect the parts they need to create the most beautiful cat in the world—within the universe envisioned by the client.
